Shakespeare

Speaking With Conviction
We are willing to engage in arguments, in the pejorative sense, and not in debates. We speak infinitely and listen finitely. We confuse opinion with fact and as a result discard reason. Our penchant to cling to our "truths" has made our public and political lives a quagmire of incestuous ideas, deformed from birth. These deformed ideas, bread in the petri dish of isolation and sheltered from public scrutiny are weak. They survive only because we choose to treat them like our own flesh and blood. They survive because we refuse to examine them. They survive because we fail to be vigilant with our ideas.
